July 18, 2011: Hiking and a Little Tennis

Jen is going to keep me busy hile i am in Portland. We went to the “Blue Plate” for lunch, this was the place I saw on Diner, Drive-ins and Dive on TV. It was kind of  a cool place. Weird seeing the lady I saw on TV, she even waited on us. I had the cheese sandwich and tomato soup with a chocolate malt. Jen had the special a hot dog with mashed potatoes. The two hot dogs were halved an put on bread, an interesting presentation, not what I was expecting. She also had a hand made Hawaiian soda. Nice flavor.

Ater lunch we headed out for a hike at Forest Park. Forest Park is the largest wooded park in any city in the U.S.. We walked 9.62 miles according to my new GPS with the fastest mile just under 17 minutes. It’s a nice place to hike. We just did the roas that bisect the park. It is kind of an optical illusion you seem to be going up hill both ways. The reality is you go up hill for the first mile and a half or so and then your elevation changes little. Sure doesn’t look that way thought.

After the hike we met up with Tim at the Rose Garden tennis courts to play a little. Hit with my restrung racquet, seems to work fine. Unfortunately, the rain came and we did play in the rain for about 45 minutes, but when the balls started to rooster-tail it was time to head home.
