January 28, 2010: Cold, Cold, Cold

It is cold today in the twenties with a good breeze, but it’s sunny. Can’t beat seeing the sun.

Not much going on at work. I am creating a Parent FAQ. It will keep me busy and maybe a few people will use it.

Shoveled the little bit of snow we got last night. Not enough to get a couple of hours off this morning. Too bad.

My dulcimer came today. I really like it. Like the sound and it seems pretty easy to play.

January 27, 2010: There Was Sun

The sun was out today. Boy that was nice. Wish I could have spent some quality time out there. Supposed to be a little snow tonight, doubt it will be enough to get a two hour delay in the morning.

Not much going on today at work. Kevin is in a little hot water bounced some checks for officials. Stay tuned.

Trying some new stuff on the sports website. Have one glitch, kind of odd, not sure exactly how to fix it. I guess I will just keep on trying.

Most of my stuff came in from Musician’s Friend. The new picks are really thin. They should work real well with the Dulcimer, since Dulcimers used to be played with quills. They are thinner that I imagined. The music stand gets the music up to a level that I can more easily see. The patch cord for the tuner worked well.

Keep working the guitar. I will get better. Good mantra huh.

Went to dinner at Waffle House. It was for a good cause Aullwood Audubon. Waffles, eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast. Heart attack on a plate, wonderful.

January 26, 2010: Eligibility Day

Real winter is back, in the twenties most of the day. Cold plus some wind made it feel even colder. No sun, wish we could just get a little of it.

Got a break this morning, a two hour delay. Must have been some ice problems, not any real problem getting to work.

Spent most of the day getting eligibility out to the coaches. The information might surprise some of the coaches, but should be no surprise to the athletes.

Worked on the guitar when I got home. Going the right direction, but it will be a long time unti; anyone confuses me with a great gutarist.

UD had a tough night loosing on a last second shot. Dayton is moving from the anointed to the also ran in the Atlantic 10. They have a real tough week coming up, Xavier and Charlotte. The only help is the games are at home.  This could be a real watershed week.

Talked to Tim, he is on a road trip for business. We talked about Lightroom. It might be a good option for him. He also told me that Kelby has a new photography book. I will have to check that out.

Talked to Paul as well. He likes the sound of an acoustic guitar, but agrees that the silent guitar could be a good option. He said he would check them out closer and give me a buzz back.

January 25, 2010:Balls Are In

I saw the sun! This is the first sun in what I think has been weeks. It didn’t stay long, but we will take what we can get.

Worked on the guitar in the morning and a little in the afternoon. I sure went better in the morning. Having trouble getting to notes further up the fret board, Maybe I can find music to play that only uses the bottom two strings.

Hiked at the Narrows this afternoon. The rain really put the river up. It was a little tough to even get across the spot by the stairs. Some of the stones were under water. I have a little leak in my left boot.

Kevin called me and the tennis balls are in. He had some fun with Robin. She was the one to let him know that some boxes were in for the athletic department with my name on them. He told Robin my balls were in. She got a little flustered. I told Kevin Judy was in trouble because now I have my balls.

Kevin was also telling me that a couple of wrestlers got in a fight at practice. The cops were called. The guys are in jail now. What a mess. Dawson said you had to be there.

January 24, 2010: Rainy Day

Didn’t get to walk today, rain. It never got to the 57 they said it would, maybe 50.

Worked on the guitar for a while. I am learning my notes. I have worked through the first four strings.

Went to the movies and saw Avatar in 3-D. I enjoyed it, the 3-D was pretty cool. Saw a couple of previews also in 3-D which changed my mind about maybe going to see Alice, a Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland. We saw the preview a couple of weeks ago and wasn’t really to impressed, then the 3-D preview, it looks a lot more fun.

The funky part of the movie experience was the fire drill with about a half hour to go in the movie. The theater was close to two thirds full before the fire drill. Only about five or six people came back to see the end. THe movie must be on some kind of a DVD because when they worked to find where we left off it worked just like on your DVD player chapter by chapter.

Indy, after a good early effort by the Jets, easily outdistances the Jets. Tough end for Bret Favre, two interceptions. One interception coming within field goal range, to win the game, with time running out. Saints win on a field goal in overtime.

Researched silent guitars. They are not truly silent. They have a built in amplifier that can be routed to a regular amplifier or simple headphones. Might be a good choice for my first guitar, it would sva everyone from my sour notes as I learn to play.
