April 2, 2010: Judy’s Off To Portland

Another really nice day.

Tennis practice was uneventful, just played a little doubles tournament as a kind of change of pace. Not sure they saw it that way.

Got Judy to the airport with no problems, she has one heavy suitcase though. The upgraded I-75 will be really different feeling even thought the road will follow mostly the same path. I didn’t go back 75, looks like everyone and their brother are heading south.

Took a hike after I dropped of Judy. This weather really makes it nice.

April 1, 2010: UD NIT Champs

Another beautiful day, it was no April Fool.

Practice was okay, the guys seem to be trying to get out of stuff rather than embracing it to become better tennis players. I guess that it is a difference of ages.

Got out for another hike today. The summer like weather is really great. Hope it doesn’t get cold again, the summer weather is so comforting.

Went to watch the UD game at Pat’s. Stopped and picked up Milano’s subs. I was really surprised, people there still make a provolone sub. I was great. I should have paid more attention to the exact ingredients so I can teach the people at the Beavercreek store how to make it.

Pat was really funny, I was telling him and Teresa about the book OI was listening to and how one of the characters calls his wife, “She who shall not be disobeyed.” I kind of laugh about it because I compare it to the, “he whom shall not be named,” in Harry Potter. Pat looks at em with tis grin and says it wasn’t funny. He was obviously picking on Teresa a little. I really enjoyed the moment.

Before the U.D. game started we were kidding about how if U.D. won we would have to burn  couch in the street. Pat laughed and said not this one I guess it was a little pricy. What traditions we remember from our college times.

U.D. really played well in the first half. They looked like they could beat almost any team in the country. The second half North Carolina mad some adjustments and U.D. got a bit tighter, so the game got tight as well. U.D. was able to pull it out and win what might be the last NIT ever. There are some big rumblings that the NCAA will go to 96 teams next year. This most probably would kill the NIT.

Surprisingly, U.D. came out the black uniformes thay had sported for all of their big road wins even though they should have been in white since they were the higher seed.

As I was leaving Pat’s after the game I offered to burn their couch, but there were no takers.

When I got home Judy acted like she knew all about the game. She had received a Dayton Daily News alert about the game.

It was nice UD won, but it was kind of empty.

March 31, 2010: Beautiful!

Really felt like summer today.

Tennis practice wasn’t bad today. They still don’t get it. It takes real effort at what you want to get a chance to be the best.

Hiked with Greg and then went to his house to work a little more on his website. Finally figured out that Greg’s logo is not important and we need to sell him, not blue prints.

Saw Syd’s new hearing aids. They really seem to work well. She is hearing a lot of stuff that she never heard before or it’s a lot louder.

March 30, 2010: UD Makes the NIT Final

Another beautiful day. Had eight for tennis practice. They still just want to do what is comfortable. To be good at anything you have got to widen your skill set.

Daisy is getting weaker. Don’t know how much longer she is going to be able to hang on. She doesn’t seem to be in pain, but she is having trouble getting around.

Worked the dulcimer. Getting better.

The stuff came from Musician’s Friend, so I could add the strap to the dulcimer I made. It does make it easier to play.

U.D. does just enough to make the NIT final. Chris Johnson is the man. Chris wright is the decoy. Tim texted me asking me to let him know who won. He was in a bar and had a hard time seeing the TV.

March 29, 2010: First Vacation Day

The rain was supposed to be over, it did, but too late for tennis practice. Did get some errands done. Bought a new eye cover, hopefully it will do a better job of keeping light out when I am trying to sleep.

Worked the dulcimer some more. Getting my timing sometime. There are some songs that just don’t speak to me like Bile and Old Joe Clarke.

Walked the bike trail today for just short of two hours. The bike trail is kind of hard on the feet and knees.

The day was kind of slow and relaxing. Not too bad.
