February 12, 2010: Dinner With Dave and Anna

Decent weather day, it didn’t feel that bad. We even had some sun.

I was afraid they would want me to work the JV GWOC at Miamisburg, but it looks like I am going to be free. That is just one long grueling day.

Not having to work wrestling means hiking with Greg in the morning. The first real test for my new boots. I am sure the boots will do fine. The real question is how will my feet hold up?

Finished listening to Robert Ludlum’s, The Bourne Deception, written by Eric Van Lustbader. Strange seeing a book written using another author’s characters. It wasn’t bad, but it was a book written hopefully to be a movie. All books should be written with no intention of being a movie and then if it works out great. This book just sort of went from one action scene to another with very little understanding of what is going on. Something a movie can get away with, but doesn’t work well in books.

Went to dinner with Dave and Anna at the Wellington Grill. The food was good, but pretty expensive for what you get. I’m cheep and I know it.

After Dinner we went over to Dave and Anna’s to watch a movie, The Time Travelers Wife. I thought it would be about the adventures he had every time he time traveled. It was really like a bad Groundhog Day. He would disappear at inopportune moments and show back up at a different age. The thing the girls liked was when he time traveled his clothes didn’t go with him, so he turned up naked at all of his destinations. The thing the guys liked was the lady how played his wife was easy to look at. This might have been more interesting as a book.

February 11, 2010: Back to Work

This is a tough week. I am getting a two hour delay this morning because of drifting snow. Since I don’t work on Monday’s in the winter, this will give me a partial day today and tomorrow for a full day (assuming there is  nothing else that  happens) for a big day and a half plus for the week. I love education.

It was kind of crazy at work today finishing up on getting all the changes made. The JV GWOC was jettisoned. Miamisburg picked it up. Hope they don’t ask me to do the computer. I like the idea of having the day off to hike with Greg instead of being stuck behind the computer. I have the feeling that they may be coming to me to do the job. We will see.

Judy called to let me know Sydney might be getting hearing aids. She has been referred to Children’s. This would explain why she has trouble with her speech.

My new guitar came. It really feels little, especially  with there being no head. It is rally a neat design. I am a little disappointed with the volume through the headphones, but it really doesn’t matter. I will buy an amp at some point.

Worked the dulcimer some more, getting more comfortable. I will work the new guitar while I watch TV tonight.

February 10, 2010: Snow Day II

The snow really stopped about 3:00 PM yesterday other than a little dusting overnight. But the forecast of more snow and high winds put the superintendents in a pickle, they decided to take the safe route. Okay by me.

Finished up on the little snow we got overnight. The real work was getting the snow the city put in my driveway from the street. They create a lot of work.

Worked quite a bit on the dulcimer. Getting there bit by bit.

Dropped the boys and Jen’s red boxes for valentines day at the post office. Tried to see if I could buy postage for the flat rate boxes. Their site is pretty much worthless unless you are doing exactly the normal stuff. No wonder they are becoming irrelevant. The flat rate box is a great idea, it is a chance to really put a dent in UPS, but they just can’t get out of their own way.

February 9, 2010: Snow Day

Working in a school system gives you some nice advantages like, short days and snow days. Its one of the few phone calls I don’t mind getting at 5:00 AM.

Worked on the dulcimer a good part of the morning until Kevin called with all the changes for me to put on the website. It was a little confusing, but I believe I got them all right. Dulcimer is getting better. Sometimes I even feel like I can play. Simple stuff, but it actually sounds okay.

Checked the snow, it’s a little deep, but not real heavy. However, I think it’s time for Dave’s snow blower. The snow was light enough so it really went fast. I did all the sidewalks between here and Dave’s. Pretty easy.

Worked a little more on the dulcimer after working outside. Could have gone a little longer, but my fingers were not behaving. Thought it was better to stop than force it. TOmorrow is another day.

My new boots didn’t make it. UPS decided it was an emergency, so they stopped delivering. Tomorrow will be soon enough.

Finally got my shipping notice on my new guitar. They have not put an anticipated delivery date on it yet, but I bet it won’t get here until next week, bummer.

February 8, 2010: Errand Day

Beautiful bright day. Cold, but sunny. It was very unusual, the sun was out all day. They are talking about snow tonight. Don’t suppose I will get another day tomorrow?

Got the dog some food then headed over to Walmart and Cubs. Got some red on to get the boys their valentines boxes. It took so,e more thought since Jen is also part of the project.

Worked on the dulcimer some more using Seifert’s lessons. They are a real help. Getting more confidence in my playing. Still havign issues with timing 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and…

Chipped off the rest of the ice and snow from the end of the driveway that the snowplow pushed up from the street, That was a workout.

Judy’s Mom and Dad dropped by and gave me my birthday caed and present. the card was funny. It complimented me on wanting to be part of the family, being a volunteer and all.

I used my present to order a Traveler Guitar. It will allow me to play while watching TV. The guitar has an internal amplifier so you can use headphones to listen and no one else really hears much. The sound they hear will be sort of like listening to someone twaning rubber bands.
