January 8, 2010: First Snowday

Got the call a little after 5:00 AM, school closed due to snow. To bad I have to go in for a wrestling tournament on Saturday or that would have been 4 days off in a row. Still not a bad week, off on Monday (non-contract), Tuesday two hour delay, Wednesday had to work all day (what gives), Thursday get to leave two hours early due to snow, and no work on Friday. Could this be most weeks? Not holding my breath.

Worked on the guitar and piano. Fingers aren’t as sore as they have been, am I glad. Might work on the guitar again this afternoon.

Jeff Lewis sent an email that he is retiring.  Be interesting to see how everything goes in the last six months and who the new person will be.

Made ham salad for lunch. I don’t think it is one of my best, but once its in the refrigerator for awhile you never know.

Snow shoveling is in my future this afternoon, whoopee.

Today’s snow again is very light so it wasn’t too bad, probably another 2 to 3 inches. I will probably sleep well tonight.

Worked a little more on the guitar. fingers are too sore. Still got in another 15 minutes. Got to be patient.

Greg called to go hiking tomorrow. Unfortunatly, I will be able to I will be working the JV wrestling tournament. I am going to miss a cool walk in the snow.

January 7, 2010: Will the Big Snow Come?

The talk of the school, is the big snow on the way? The weather people first started out 1 to 3 inches, then 2 to 4, now up to 6 inches. If our weather people are as accurate as they have been in the past, all hype no substance. Our in-house weather guy football coach and meteorology teacher Bob DeLong says it will start at 10:00 AM. We will see.

Kevin rolled in just at 8:00 AM saving me from the dreaded calendar meeting. What timing.

Good day, the snow is getting us out two hours early. There will be no wrestling tonight, so I won’t miss the start of the national championship game.

Talked to Paul, he is having some issues with the Park Service they all of the sudden want $00 per month for the house he is using.  He thought it was $250. The invoice they gave him does not even describe the house he is in.  Hopefully they will see the light. I told him he needs to get an attorney if his bosses can’t get this thing worked out.

Worked on the guitar and piano. The guitar strings are killing my fingers. I can’t wait for my fingers to toughen up. Paul thinks the one guitar I am using is probably Pat’s, because Grandma gave it to him. Pegs old guitar is on its last legs.  The top is warped.

The snow was pretty light so it wasn’t a big problem getting the snow off the drive and walks. There was probably 4 to 5 inches.

Watched the national championship game.  Alabama beat Texas as predicted, but it wasn’t as easy as people  thought it might be. It should have been simple with Texas’ quarterback Colt McCoy going down with an injury. Texas’ defense kept them in the game. Texas had to use a freshman quarterback that has virtually zero experience.

Early on I thought there might have been a conspiracy by the Texas receivers. They kept dropping most of the kids passes. Came down to the end with Alabama getting a turnover and then the offense took it in with almost no time left.

January 6, 2010: First Full Day

Pretty uneventful, the staff at school is pretty wound up about the possibility of tomorrow being a snow day. The school secretary invited everyone down to the office a 2:35 PM to do the snow dance, whatever that is.

It was kind of a grey day. Didn’t like having to go to work in the dark. I liked the the day before with the two hour delay. It might have  been grey, but it was light.

Took a Lynda.com course on menus. It was okay, but the menus required JavaScript. I like menus that use only CSS since they are simpler. I started another course. This one is on jQuery. It is supposed to be an easy way to add JavaScript to websites. I will see.

My new tuner came and the guitar course as well. Hopefully the course will give me a little more structure in my quest to play the guitar.

GMAC Bowl tonight, Central Michigan versus Troy, a pretty much who cares. At least the MAC has a chance to win a bowl game.

January 5, 2010: Hi Ho Hi Ho Back to Work I Go

There was some snow overnight, so I got a break this morning, a two hour delay.  My first day back will be a shortened one.

Nothing too big today at work. there was a snafu with one buses for wrestling over the break. I am not surprised, I think we are pretty lucky there are not a lot more.

Restarted my Lynda.com subscription. I received a freebie with my Mac version of the CS4 Suite. Hopfully I can get through a bunch of new classes.

I am going to work the wrestling meet Thursday as well as the JV Tournament Saturday.  Quite a bit of wrestling in a very short time.

Pat asked me to go to the UD game tonight. It might be a good one. They are playing Ball State.  It will be the first time, in a while, that UD will have a full healthy team. They just don’t seem to be able to get everything together for a complete game. If they could, they probably could compete with most any team.

Traffic was really slow getting over to Pat’s. Between hitting almost every red light between here and Pat’s and the overly cautious drivers… wow.

UD easily beat Ball State. I felt sorry for the starting point guard for Ball State. UD just hounded him on defense. I bet he will sleep well tonight. Chris right looked almost like a complete basketball player tonight. He shot jump shots. Not that much jump, but it is a great step forward.

Iowa looked good beating Georgia Tech in the orange bowl, the little I got to see. Too late, have to go to bed.

January 4, 2010: Last Day of Break

Kind of a grey day. The wind makes it feel much colder than the twenty something temperature. Every once in awhile the sun tries to burn through the clouds.

Still not 100%, will probably be doing the minimum.

Headed out and ran some errands, got the dog some food, some better gloves for pruning apple trees, and all kinds of miscellaneous stuff at Sam’s.  Hopefully that will keep us going for awhile.

Worked on the guitar and I am getting the hang of the 12 Bar Blues.  It requires me to move from A to D to E and back.  I ma getting the hang of it can’t wait until my fingers get tough enough to keep them form getting so sore.

Also worked on the piano. I will keep trying. Saw a tip to use a metronome to get better timing. I gave it a try, so we will see if it helps.

The Boise State versus TCU game is on tonight.  Wish they would have put them against the traditional BCS teams instead of each other. One could have played Penn State the other LSU. Playing the BCS guys would have proved a lot more. Now all we get is a winner.
