January 13, 2010:

Snow is starting to melt, warming up slightly, some sun. Supposed to warm up more with some rain. The trails at the Narrows will be a bit of a mess.

Worked on learning more about Facebook to see if it will work for Xenia Sports. Looks like it will be worth a try, football is having good success with their site.

Played the guitar for a while. Having trouble with the G string, just doesn’t sound right. Found it was slipping. Sounds a little better, but the guitar is buzzing. It’s probably because the action tis to high. I am going to need to purchase a new one. That Seagull  looks like a good option. I will stay with this one for awhile since I am just trying to get my fingers working right.

Made spagetti for dinner, it hit the spot.

Leverage marathon tonight. Probably watch those until it’s time to view some of he saved stuff.

Watched US play Fordham from Madison Square Garden. I think UD was in aw or something form being in the Garden they didn’t really get going until well into the second half and then they put them out of their misery in a hurry. Fordham could be a good team someday, but not now. Chris Wright had four monster dunks off of alley oops. You would have thought they might have figured it out after the first couple.

January 12, 2010: Computer Day

Its warming up, spring must be around the corner… right. Getting a start, to day I had an organizational meeting for tennis this spring. It will be interesting to see how we do this year.

Worked on the school sports website and finished up on the pop out menu for the schedule menu. Had a little trouble getting it to work in the old EI browsers, but after a Google, shazam, up and running. Tomorrow I will try and make it a little prettier.

Worked on the guitar and piano. I figured out why the guitar sounded weird yesterday, it helps when you tune the strings to the right note. Fingers are still sore. I am looking forward to not writing that. They are better.

Listening to a book on the time of Lincoln and the civil war. Some real interesting tidbits. Lincoln was not on the ballot in seven or nine states. The authors thought was the reason Lincoln was able to get elected was the opposition vote was split between three opponents.

Every state sent military units to fight for the North except South Carolina. South Carolinians had to go to North Carolina to enlist with a unit from that state.

The battle at Fort Sumter was not really a battle. Both sides just lobed shells at each other. The shells just bounced off the walls of the fort. The cannon balls rolled on the beach on the Southern side. The North actually surrendered about three times. One guy, sort of described as a looser, had a slave row him over to the fort and the North surrendered to him, one guy. While he was being rowed back another delegation from the South rowed up. They were upset when they heard that there had already been a surrender. So the decision was to go back and they fought for a little while longer and then the real surrender happened. The only real damage was from an errant shell that made it over the fort wall and started a fire.

January 11, 2010: Christmas Season Is Officially Over

Kind of gray outside, still on the cool side even for this time of year. They say we might get a touch of snow today.  They are talking about a little warm up might get in the forty’s by next Friday.

Took the Christmas tree down for another year. The new tree was kind of big, but it worked. We will see how it comes out of the bags next season. Hopefully it will be shazam and it’s up. The Christmas season is officially over for another year.

Worked on the guitar for awhile and found a new website to help, freeandeasyguitar.com. The guy does a nice job stepping you through the beginnings of playing guitar. It was kind of weird I must have been at it too long and my fingers gave out. I was working on some chords and all of the sudden they just didn’t sound right. First I tried retuning the guitar, but that wasn’t it.

I also plinked on the piano for awhile. Amazing Grace is starting to sound better.

Going to surprise Judy tonight with beets from Kevin. She probably won’t care for the surprise, but she should like the chicken and noodles.

No surprise other than Judy said they were better than she remembered beets. Unfortunately, she probably won’t be trying any more.

January 10, 2010: Baby It’s Cold Outside

The weathermen were right on, when I went to church this morning it was 5 degrees. I am not sure exactly how low it got, but wouldn’t be surprised if if it got to zero. There must have been moisture in the air because everything had a thick frost on it, kind of pretty. Over by St. Anthony it was flurrying. Clear as a bell here. I will probably wait until after noon t o think about heading for a hike.

Went for a hike, it was chilly, but not bad. I was surprised, I expected to see bunches of animal tracks in the snow. Didn’t really see much until I got up to the Big Woods Trail, deer tracks criss crossing everywhere. I guess when it gets cold they must not move as far as when its warmer.

Listening to a book on the Lincoln era. The author, as expected, talks a lot about slavery. He discussed how the slave owners tried to say that slaves were better off than the poor of the day because they were taken care of. Are we becoming slave like in that we want the government to take care of us? We defiantly are not slaves, but are we looking to be taken care of.

Went to see The Blind Side, its a movie about Michael Oher and how he came to be a NFL linemen. Nicely done by Sandra Bullock. Wonder how many other kids like Michael there are out there?

January 9, 2010: Wrestle Mania… JV Style

Long day ahead today, JV wrestling tournament. I hope to get home by 6:00 PM. Sixteen teams today, a double elimination bracket tournament. Shouldn’t be too bad, don’t have to keep score, just try to get the right kid winning the match.

Things went pretty well today. The only real problem was the scorers getting the wrestlers mixed up, so I ended up putting the wrong kid as the winner. I was pretty close on time. I got home before 6:00 PM.

UD won in overtime today versus Duquesne. A decent team, but I don’t think they should have been able to stay with Dayton at home. Looking at the box score it looks like they took the inside away from Dayton. If you can control the inside against Dayton and they are not hitting well from the outside any team has a chance. Sort of glad I was at the tournament and couldn’t watch it on TV, it might have been too nerve-wracking.

Bengals bow out, loosing to the Jets two weeks in a row Ochosinco pretty much shut out. Maybe next year will be their year. I am not holding my breath.

It’s supposed to be cold tomorrow, hopefully I can still go for a hike.
